At some point every fall, people start staring at their house a little differently. Maybe it is because we spend more time indoors once the weather cools down, but suddenly homeowners start noticing awkward corners, dark rooms, empty walls, and spaces that never fully came together the way they imagined.
What has been interesting lately at St Louis Glass Works is how many homeowners are using custom glass in places people normally would not think about.
Everyone already knows about shower glass and bathroom mirrors, but lately we are seeing much more creative projects. Glass wine room walls. Floating glass shelves inside coffee bars. Glass desktop protectors for home offices. Interior glass panels that separate rooms without making the house feel closed off. Even custom cut glass for built ins and furniture pieces people already own but want to update.
One of the biggest trends right now is homeowners trying to make their homes feel more open without actually remodeling. Nobody wants to tear apart their entire house right before the holidays. People want upgrades that feel dramatic without becoming a six month construction project.
Glass does that really well.
It reflects light naturally, keeps spaces feeling cleaner visually, and somehow makes rooms feel more finished without adding clutter. This becomes especially noticeable during the fall when homes start feeling darker earlier in the evening.
We have also noticed more homeowners using custom glass to update older furniture instead of replacing it. A custom glass top on a wood dining table instantly changes the feel of the room. Glass shelving inside built ins makes everything look more intentional. Even something simple like replacing a cracked cabinet insert can refresh an entire kitchen.
One thing people always say after custom glass is installed is that their home suddenly feels more expensive. Not flashy. Just cleaner, brighter, and more thoughtfully designed.
At St Louis Glass Works, most projects start with homeowners saying something along the lines of “I do not even know if this is possible,” and honestly, custom work is usually our favorite part of the job.
A lot of the best projects are the ones people do not initially think of when they hear the words custom glass.
If you have a space in your home that feels unfinished, awkward, or like it needs something but you cannot figure out what, custom glass might honestly be the missing piece.
